Foyle days racing – saturday 21st

The first gun (for the race into town) will go at 11.00

We plan to sail into town, then have two races in town, then race home.

It would be great to see a big fleet all welcome especially from Movile and Prehen. All welcome

(lunches will be given out after 2nd town race, we have been advised that we may tie up at pontoon to eat/ receive prizes(for 1st,2nd,3rd of 2 town races).

Our ”allocated” berths are going to be on the main pontoon at the end which is opposite the right hand corner of council offices.

Very windy day F6 and gusting more NW. 5 boats sailed down to Black Brea on a very fast reach. 3 boats retired as winds showed no sign of easing. The two boats remaining raced and had a great day out with fast sailing in high winds and noteably without capsize. There was no second race – due to conditions.

SAILING SCHOOL IN THE CITY

Enjoy the thrill of sailing with the Loughs Agency! A Sailing School has been established on the River Foyle in a partnership between the Loughs Agency and Ocean Youth Trust Ireland. We are offering 2 day RYA Level 1 sailing courses using RS Vision sailing dingies.

Opportunity:   RYA Level 1 sailing course (possibility of level 2 for those of suitable standard/promise)

Age limits: minimum age 14 years

Date:               2 courses:

Course 1: Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 May 2011 (2 days)

Course 2: Thursday 26 and Friday 27 May 2011 (2 days)

Time:               9:30am – 4:30pm each day

Venue:             Loughs Agency, Prehen (beside A5)

Cost:                Free of charge (funded by Loughs Agency)

Registration:    In advance (please contact the Loughs Agency)

The Loughs Agency is keen to:-

–          ‘up skill those already involved in sailing

–          provide basic skills to those who may, otherwise, not have an opportunity to become involved in sailing

Registrations are open now and the deadline for registrations is 4:00pm 12th May 2011.

A very windy gusty day made conditions very difficult but good fun. Fewer boats out today as some headed to Malahide for the O Tiarnaigh challenge, a GP14 association event. Good luck to them in that venture. Many thanks to George G who stood in as OD.

Light winds droping all the time. Bill J was DSQ for failing to come inside the gate marks. Anton H rtd after getting stuck at the power station mark in swirling tides and flukey winds.

The first race this evening took just 40mins so Anthony G on OD decided to have two races.
